House Food Japanese Curry TVC Production Project
Food advertisements need to show viewers how delicious the food is and on what occasions it's suitable. For House Foods, Right Media created a Japanese curry TV commercial under a minute: four dishes, close-ups of each sauce, the crisp sound of bread, and a message about Vietnamese family meals.
The TV commercial for House Foods Japanese curry was produced by Right Media.
Client's request: Japanese quality in a Vietnamese meal.
House Foods House Foods is a long-established Japanese food brand, best known for its convenient curry paste cubes. In the Vietnamese market, House Foods wants to send a clear message: Japanese curry is very diverse, easy to combine with other dishes, and suits the taste of every member of the Vietnamese family.
Vietnamese people are familiar with curry, but usually only eat it in a few fixed ways. Therefore, the challenge for the TV commercial was to show viewers that Japanese curry can be served with rice, bread, udon noodles, or ramen, and that it can be made right in their own kitchens. Based on that message, the team received three specific requests:
- Change your curry eating habits to a different style: Vietnamese people usually eat curry with rice or bread. House Foods wanted the TV commercial to show "1001 ways to enjoy Japanese curry" in less than a minute.
- Makes viewers crave it through the screen: The breaded fried meat slices, noodles, and curry sauce should be clearly and realistically displayed.
- Maintain the brand spirit: The TV commercial needed the warmth and meticulousness of Japanese style, but still be relatable to Vietnamese meals.
Right Media's solution: present the food carefully, and film up close.
Based on House Foods' brief, Right Media selected three approaches for the Japanese curry TV commercial:
Food Styling and a multi-course menu
To convey the idea of "many ways to eat," the TV commercial doesn't stop at just one plate of curry rice. On the screen is an entire menu:
- Curry rice Traditionally, it's a thick, creamy sauce mixed with diced potatoes and carrots.
- Curry sandwich Fried until golden brown and crispy, when broken in half you can clearly see the sauce filling inside.
- Curry Udon Noodles Thick noodles, served with Tonkatsu (breaded fried pork cutlet).
- Curry Ramen Served with char siu pork and soft-boiled eggs in the Japanese style.
Each dish is meticulously presented, from the color of the vegetables used for garnish, the consistency of the sauce, to the steam rising from it. Placed side by side, they form a complete and satisfying meal. The four dishes also offer four cooking suggestions: viewers can choose a dish that suits their family's taste and replicate it using the same curry paste cube.
Close-up camera angle, camera slows down to follow the food.
The TV commercial uses many close-up and ultra-close-up shots, with the camera moving slowly to follow the food.
- Sauce pouring scene: The golden-brown curry sauce is drizzled evenly over the crispy, breaded fried meat, the sauce flowing slowly across the screen.
- Scene for enjoyment: The noodles are picked up, dragging the sauce along with them; the character bites into the bread, and the crisp sound is clearly audible. These moments are kept long enough for viewers to clearly see the dish. In less than a minute, each dish only appears on screen for a few seconds, so the crew chose the most appetizing moment of each dish instead of filming the entire cooking process.
The character eats curry as a daily meal.
The TV commercial captures everyday moments with actors of various ages: a young person eating udon noodles, a guy enjoying a convenient Curry Pan, and a girl savoring a plate of Tonkatsu curry rice. Watching them enjoy their meal, viewers feel a connection to Japanese curry in their daily routines. The diverse cast also perfectly conveys House Foods' message: Japanese curry is a hit with everyone in the family.

The process of making a Japanese curry TV commercial for House Foods.
The project went through five steps, from concept to handover:
- Step 1: Receiving and researching the product: The Right Media team worked with representatives from House Foods Vietnam to understand the characteristics of the curry cubes, brand positioning, and essential messaging.
- Step 2: Develop a detailed storyboard: Finalize the concept of "1001 ways to enjoy Japanese curry," write the scene script, calculate the transitions and duration for each dish in the 50-second TV commercial.
- Step 3: Food Styling and Prop Preparation: Test cooking and arranging each dish, preparing tableware to ensure the food retains its freshness throughout the filming session.
- Step 4: Filming at the Studio: The crew filmed in the studio, focusing on moments of drizzling sauce, biting into bread, and picking up noodles with chopsticks.
- Step 5: Post-production and color correction: Set to cheerful music, the video features warm color tones. The sound effects clearly highlight the "crispy" sound when biting into the pastry, the "rustling" sound when pulling the noodles, and House Foods' contact information for purchasing is included at the end of the video.

Results achieved
House Foods received:
- A 50-second TV commercial: Short enough to run on digital platforms, the food images are incredibly detailed, and the sound is realistic, accompanied by cheerful background music.
- Say the message clearly: Four different dishes show consumers that Japanese curry can be prepared and enjoyed at home in many ways.
- The video ends with purchasing information: After watching, viewers will immediately know where to buy House Foods curry cubes.
For food businesses, such a TV commercial can be used in many ways: running ads on social media, showing at points of sale, or being cut into short segments for each dish. The House Foods Japanese Curry TV commercial is one of Right Media's food TV commercial projects, where the dish in the image must be accompanied by the brand's message.
